This Cookie Policy explains how Locanter ("we", "us", "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on our website at locanter.com (the "Site"). It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your personal data more broadly.
This policy applies to the Locanter website only. The Locanter mobile App does not use cookies. For information about how the App collects and uses data (including Device IDs, Firebase instance IDs, and similar technologies), please refer to our Privacy Policy.
1. What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, tablet, or phone) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently, to remember your preferences, and to provide information to the website operator about how the site is being used.
Cookies may be set by the website you are visiting ("first-party cookies") or by third-party services that the website uses, such as analytics providers ("third-party cookies").
2. Cookies We Use
We use two categories of cookies on the Site:
2.1 Essential Cookies
These cookies are necessary for the Site to function properly. They enable basic features such as page navigation and security. The Site cannot function without these cookies, and they do not require your consent under applicable law.

2.2 Analytics Cookies
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our Site. Google Analytics sets cookies that help us measure the number of visitors, see which pages are visited most, and understand how users navigate the Site. This information helps us improve the Site.
Analytics cookies are only loaded after you have given your consent via our cookie consent banner. If you do not consent, no analytics cookies are set: Google Consent Mode keeps the analytics-storage signal denied, so Google Analytics does not store or share identifiers about your visit.

Google Analytics processes data on Google's servers, which may be located outside the European Economic Area (including in the United States). 2.3 Advertising Cookies
We use Google Ads to measure the performance of our advertising campaigns — for example, which ads led people to install Locanter. With your consent, Google may set cookies and use advertising identifiers to attribute conversions and, where enabled, personalise ads.
Advertising cookies are only loaded after you have given your consent via our cookie consent banner. If you do not consent, no advertising cookies are set: Google Consent Mode keeps the ad-storage, ad-user-data and ad-personalisation signals denied.

2.4 Functional Local Storage (Maps)
The interactive event map on the Site is provided by Mapbox. To operate and secure its service (including measuring map loads for billing), Mapbox's software stores a randomly generated identifier in your browser's local storage and sends usage telemetry (such as map-load events) to Mapbox when the map is shown. Locanter does not use this identifier to identify you, and it is not shared across other websites; we treat it as strictly necessary for showing you the map.

3. How We Ask for Your Consent
When you first visit the Site, you will see a cookie consent banner. This banner gives you the option to:
- Accept all cookies — essential, analytics, and advertising cookies will be set
- Reject non-essential cookies — only essential cookies will be set; Google Analytics and Google Ads will not be loaded
- Customise — choose analytics and advertising independently
We do not load any analytics or advertising scripts, or set any non-essential cookies, until you have made an active choice to accept them — Google Consent Mode keeps all non-essential storage denied by default until then. This is in compliance with the ePrivacy Directive (as transposed into Irish law by S.I. No. 336 of 2011) and GDPR.
4. Managing Your Cookie Preferences
4.1 Changing Your Consent
You can change your cookie preferences at any time by clicking the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer of the Site. This will re-display the consent banner and allow you to update your choices.
4.2 Browser Settings
You can also manage cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. However, if you block essential cookies, the Site may not function correctly. Instructions for managing cookies in common browsers:

4.3 Google Analytics Opt-Out
In addition to declining analytics cookies via our banner, you can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, available at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
5. Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) setting. There is currently no industry-wide standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals. However, if you have declined analytics cookies via our consent banner, no tracking will occur regardless of your DNT setting.
6. Changes to This Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example if we add new analytics tools or change the cookies we use. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If we introduce new categories of cookies that require consent, we will re-display the consent banner.
