This Privacy Policy explains how Locanter Limited ("Locanter", "we", "us", "our") collects, uses and shares your personal information when you use the Locanter app, our website at locanter.com, and our related services (together, "Locanter" or the "Platform"). It applies to everyone who uses Locanter, whether you are discovering and attending events ("attendees") or creating and selling tickets to them ("organisers").
Please take a moment to read it. If you have any questions, you can reach us at any time at help@locanter.com.
Locanter is an event discovery and ticketing platform based in Dublin, Ireland. The Platform is operated by Locanter Limited, a company registered in Ireland (company number 802784), with its registered office at 77 Camden Street Lower, Dublin, D02 XE80, Ireland.
Locanter Limited is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Irish Data Protection Act 2018. Because we are based in Ireland, our lead supervisory authority is the Irish Data Protection Commission (see Section 17).
We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer, as we are not required to do so. Questions about data protection are handled by our team and can be sent to help@locanter.com.
Some of this information is necessary to provide the service: if you do not give us what we need to create your account or to process a ticket purchase, we will not be able to offer you those features. The rest is optional, and we explain below what we collect and why.
When you create an account or set up your profile, we collect your name, email address and, if you sign up with a password, your password (which we only ever store in encrypted form). You can also choose to add a profile photo. You can sign in with an email and password or through Google, Apple or Microsoft, in which case we receive your name and email from that provider.
If you contact us for support, we keep your messages and the details you choose to share so we can help you.
If you are an organiser, we also collect the information you provide to list and manage your events (such as the event's name, description, category, location, dates and times, ticket types and prices, and your refund policy), and the details of any team members you invite to help run your events.
If you enquire about hosting on Locanter through the organiser interest form on our website, we collect the contact details you provide there (your name, organisation, email address and phone number) and use them only to respond to your enquiry and help you get set up. We treat these enquiries like support messages for retention purposes (see Section 9).
To power discovery and recommendations, we collect information about how you use the Platform, including the events you view, save, share or search for, and the links you follow to external ticketing pages. From this activity we build an interest profile that helps us decide which events to show you. We also collect basic technical information about your device (such as device type, operating system and app version), together with diagnostic and crash information that helps us keep the service stable and secure.
If you have consented to analytics, the app also takes a brief, one-off reading of a few device signals each session: how your device is oriented, whether it is lying flat or tilted, whether it is still or moving, and roughly how bright your screen is. These readings help us understand the setting you are browsing in, so we can order events more usefully. We record them only as coarse categories — never a continuous sensor feed and never precise measurements. The motion reading is a single sample lasting under a second, and none of this is collected on the website. If a reading is unavailable we simply leave it out. Turning analytics off in your privacy settings stops this collection.
With your consent, we use analytics tools to understand how Locanter is used so we can improve it. This includes Google Analytics and PostHog. With your separate consent, PostHog also records sessions — replays of how you move through the app or site (taps, scrolls and navigation) — with text and other sensitive content masked, so we can find and fix usability problems. PostHog stores this information in the European Union. You can turn analytics and session recording on or off at any time in your privacy settings.
Also with your consent, we use Google Analytics together with Google Ads to measure how our advertising performs — for example, which ads lead people to install Locanter — and, where enabled, to help show you more relevant ads. This can involve Google processing data, including online identifiers, on servers outside the European Economic Area (see Section 8). We use Google Consent Mode, so until you consent these tags load in a restricted way that does not store or share advertising or analytics identifiers. You can withdraw this consent at any time.
If you allow it, we use your device's location to show events near you on the map and in your feed. We use this location only at the time of your request and do not store it. If you don't allow location access, Locanter still works; it simply shows events in a default area rather than tailored to where you are. You can change this permission at any time in your device settings.
When you buy a ticket, we collect the information needed to complete your order and issue your ticket: your name and email, and the details of your order such as the event, tickets and amount. Your card details are entered directly with our payment processor (Stripe) and are not stored by Locanter. Each ticket includes a secure code used to check you in at the event, and you can choose to add your ticket to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
If you buy tickets on our website as a guest (without creating a full account first), we create a lightweight ticket account keyed to the email address you provide, so we can issue your tickets and handle refunds; you confirm that you are 16 or older during checkout. You can claim this account later by signing in with that email address, and all of the rights in Section 10 apply to it like any other account.
If you are an organiser receiving payouts, the identity and bank details required to pay you are collected and verified by Stripe; we keep only the records needed to manage your account and payouts.
We use information about accounts, devices and payments to detect, prevent and investigate fraud, abuse and other activity that could harm our users or the Platform.
Some events relate to topics that could reveal sensitive information about you, such as your religion, health or sexual orientation. We do not ask you for sensitive information, and we do not build profiles that label you by these characteristics or use them to make decisions that significantly affect you. Our recommendations are based on your activity with events generally. If we ever offer personalisation based specifically on sensitive interests, we will ask for your explicit consent first, and you will be able to withdraw it at any time.
Locanter asks for a small number of device permissions, each of which you can change at any time in your device settings:
The Locanter app does not use cookies; it relies on standard technologies stored on your device to keep you signed in and to operate the service. Our website may use essential cookies that are necessary for it to work and, with your consent, analytics cookies that help us understand how the site is used and advertising cookies that measure how our advertising performs. Where we use non-essential cookies on the website, we show a consent banner and do not load them until you agree. For more information, see our Cookie Policy.
We use your information for the purposes below, each of which has a legal basis under the GDPR.
| Purpose | Information used | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Provide and operate Locanter (your account, browsing events, search and saving) | Account and profile information, activity, location (at the time of use) | Performance of our contract with you |
| Personalise the events and recommendations you see | Activity and interest profile, location (at the time of use) | Our legitimate interest in providing relevant, personalised content |
| Sell and issue tickets, and process payments, refunds and organiser payouts | Name, email, order and payment information, organiser account details | Performance of our contract; legal obligation |
| Send you service messages and respond to your requests | Name, email, order and support information | Performance of our contract |
| Send you notifications (reminders, suggestions, review requests and updates) | Account details, your ticket purchases and your notification preferences | Consent |
| Keep Locanter stable, secure and free from fraud and abuse | Device and technical information, account and payment signals | Our legitimate interest in securing the Platform and preventing fraud; legal obligation |
| Understand how Locanter is used and improve it | Usage and analytics information | Consent |
| Meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations | Transaction and payment records | Legal obligation |
Where we rely on your consent (for example for precise location, analytics, and notifications), you can withdraw it at any time without affecting processing already carried out. Where we rely on our legitimate interests, we have weighed them against your rights, and you can object at any time (see Section 10).
Locanter is built around personalised discovery. We use automated systems to decide which events to show you and in what order, based on your activity, your interest profile and context such as where and when you are browsing. This personalisation affects only the events you see and how they are ranked. It has no legal or similarly significant effect on you, and every event remains available through search, the map and filters regardless of how it is ranked.
You can object to this personalisation at any time (see Section 10); if you do, we will delete the activity data and interest profile used for it.
We also use automated checks to help prevent fraud and abuse, which may, for example, prevent a suspicious transaction from completing. If you believe a decision was made in error, you can contact us at help@locanter.com and a member of our team will review it.
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in the ways described here: with service providers who process it on our behalf, with event organisers when you buy a ticket, with payment and other partners where needed to provide the service, and where required by law.
| Who | What and why | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Provides our cloud hosting, sign-in, databases, file storage, app diagnostics and the technology behind our recommendations. Core information is stored in the EU. | Processor | |
| Stripe | Processes payments and organiser payouts and helps prevent payment fraud. Receives the information needed to take payment; card details are entered directly with Stripe. | Processor / independent controller for its own compliance |
| Event organisers (Hosts) | When you buy a ticket, we share the booking information the organiser needs to run the event and to meet its obligations to you, such as your name and order details. The organiser uses this for its own purposes under its own privacy notice. | Independent controller |
| Apple & Google Wallet | Lets you add your ticket to your digital wallet, if you choose to. | Independent controller |
| Maps provider (Mapbox) | Displays maps and event locations. Its software also collects limited usage telemetry needed to operate and bill the map service (see our Cookie Policy), which may be processed in the United States under the safeguards in Section 8. | Processor / independent controller for its own telemetry |
| PostHog | With your consent, provides product analytics and session replay (recordings of how you interact with the app or site, with sensitive content masked — passwords, payment details, tickets and personal information such as names and email addresses) so we can improve usability. Stores this information in the EU. | Processor |
| Google Analytics & Google Ads | With your consent, measure how Locanter is used and how our advertising performs, and help show more relevant ads. May process data, including online identifiers, in the United States under the safeguards in Section 8. | Processor / independent controller for its own purposes |
| Email, search, analytics and other service providers | Help us send emails, power search, understand usage (with your consent) and deliver and secure the Platform. | Processor |
| Providers that help us list public events | Help us compile events from publicly available sources (see Section 15). | Processor |
| Authorities and advisers | Where required by law, to comply with legal obligations, or to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. | Not applicable |
We choose service providers that offer appropriate protection for your information and are bound by contracts that limit how they may use it. A current list of the specific providers we use is available on request at help@locanter.com.
We store the core information that powers Locanter (your account, the events you browse and your tickets) in the European Union. Some of our service providers operate outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States and the United Kingdom. When information is transferred outside the EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as European Commission adequacy decisions (including the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, where applicable) and Standard Contractual Clauses. You can ask us for more information about these safeguards at help@locanter.com.
We keep your information only for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy, and then delete or anonymise it. In general:
| Information | How long we keep it |
|---|---|
| Account and profile information | While your account is active, and deleted within 30 days after you delete your account, unless we are required to keep it longer. |
| Activity and personalisation information | While your account is active, and deleted within 30 days of account deletion or of a valid objection. |
| Information collected before you create an account | Until you create an account, or for up to 12 months if you don't. |
| Location | Not stored; used only at the time of your request. |

| Notification settings | Until you turn notifications off or delete your account. |
| Technical, diagnostic and analytics information | Up to 24 months. |
| Fraud-prevention records | Only for as long as needed to protect our users and the Platform. |
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
You can use the two most common controls directly in the app: "Download my data" gives you a copy of your information, and "Delete account" removes it (see Section 11). For anything else, contact us at help@locanter.com. We will respond within one month and may need to confirm your identity first. If you are unhappy with our response, you can complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission (see Section 17).
You can delete your account at any time from the app's settings, or by emailing help@locanter.com. When you do, we delete the information associated with your account, including your profile, profile photo, saved events, activity history, preferences and notification settings, within 30 days.
We keep some information for longer where the law requires or allows it, namely:
We use a range of technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encrypting it in transit and at rest, restricting access to those who need it, storing core information in the EU, and continuously working to prevent unauthorised access, fraud and abuse. We store passwords only in encrypted form and never store your full card details. No service can be completely secure, but we work hard to protect your information and continually review our safeguards.
Locanter is not intended for children under 16, the digital age of consent in Ireland. We ask you to confirm your age when you sign up and do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has provided us with personal information, contact us at help@locanter.com and we will delete it. We encourage users aged 16 and 17 to review this policy with a parent or guardian.
Locanter contains links to external websites and ticketing platforms (for example an organiser's own site or a third-party ticketing service) for events that aren't ticketed through us. When you follow such a link you leave Locanter, and your information is then handled under that site's own privacy policy. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites.
Not every event on Locanter is submitted to us directly by its organiser. To give you a fuller picture of what's on, we also include events compiled from publicly available sources. Where such a listing includes personal information (typically the name and public contact details of an organiser or promoter), we use it only to create and display the event, and only to the extent it is already public. We do this on the basis of our legitimate interest in offering comprehensive event discovery, weighed against the interests of the people concerned.
If you are an organiser or promoter and you would prefer your publicly listed event not to appear on Locanter, or you would like the related information corrected or removed, contact us at help@locanter.com and we will take care of it. You also have all of the rights set out in Section 10.
We may update this policy from time to time as Locanter develops. When we make significant changes, we will update the date above and let you know through the app or by email where the change materially affects how we use your information.
If you have any questions or requests about this policy or your personal information, contact us at help@locanter.com, or write to: Locanter Limited, 77 Camden Street Lower, Dublin, D02 XE80, Ireland.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Irish Data Protection Commission:
